CROATIAN songwriter Rajko Dujmic died. Index found out the information from his close family.

He had a serious car accident a few days before. He died in a hospital.

A composer and a former leader of Novi Fosili, Rajko Dujmic (65) was seriously injured when he lost control over his vehicle near Ravna Gora, fell into an abyss, and then was placed in the intensive care unit of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka.

The Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department informed, without revealing the identity, that the 65-year-old driver of a passenger car Volkswagen Tiguan with Zagreb registration plates, landed off the road in Ravna Gora.

It was confirmed that on Wednesday, around 5:15 pm in Kosa Street in Gorski Kotar, he lost control over the vehicle in the curve of the road and fell into an 11 meters deep abyss. Due to sustained injuries, he was transferred to the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, the police informed. He was alone in the vehicle.

The doctors were fighting for his life for days. 

“Please, pray for him to wake up from a coma,” the emotionally distressed Snjezana Dujmic wrote on Facebook after the accident.

The success of Novi Fosili

Dujmic was born in Zagreb on 7 August 1954. Although he finished the music high school, the violin course, he proved himself as a keyboard player, and that’s the instrument he mastered in many rock bands such as Crno bijeli, Marin Skrgatic band, Klan, and Zlatni akordi.

But he is mostly known as a member of Novi Fosili. They published their first big hit in 1976, playing their song “Diridonda” on Split Festival, which delighted the audience all over the former Yugoslavia. It was actually Zdenko Runjic’s song, but Dujmic gave the bend most of the songs which are recognizable even today. The audience and the critics adored them, and many hits followed, ensuring them the status of one of the most popular bands in former Yugoslavia, and the popularity on the international level, proved by tours all over the Soviet Union, the USA, Canada, and Europe.
