Manchester je došao u vodstvu u 64. minuti nakon katastrofalne greške vratara Dudeka, kojem je jedna lagana lopta ispala iz ruke, a u mrežu ju je pospremio Diego Forlan. Već tri minute kasnije bilo 2:0 za goste, a ponovno je loše intervenirao Dudek. Forlan je pogodio u njegov bliži kut.

Jedini strijelac za Liverpool bio je Sami Hyypia u 82. minuti.
